Jer 26:1-9; Mt 13:54-58
In today’s Gospel, we read about Jesus’ rejection in his hometown.
The text reads, ‘They took offense at him.’ For what? Apparently, for all the good Jesus did among them!
The way they refer to him as ‘this man’ shows their contempt and resentment for him.
The people of his hometown couldn’t stomach Jesus’ rise and popularity.
So, they go on to make disparaging remarks about his profession, family, and relatives.
Such is the disabling power of negativity!
Their disbelief affected even a person like Jesus, who ‘went about doing good’ (Acts 10:38).
If we can, we should enable the movement of good people, not disable them.
The heralds of the Good News must have an enabling effect on listeners!
