Accompaniment of the Suffering God!

Dn 5:1-6,13-14,16-17,23-28; Lk 21:12-19

Today’s Gospel seems to present a scary picture for Jesus’ followers.

Jesus talks about persecution, betrayal, and hatred that his followers will have to endure ‘for his sake.’

What, then, is the consolation? What should we really hope for?

Christian faith is unique because of the accompaniment of God.

Problems in life are real. Suffering is inevitable. Pain is a must. But in all these, we have God as our companion and friend because who we believe in is the crucified Christ.

We have Jesus’ assurance that, in the midst of our tribulations, we will find Divine help. How else can one explain the radiance on St. Stephen’s face when he was facing his trials?

‘Not a hair on your head will be destroyed’ is the ultimate expression of Divine protection.

The suffering God is our help in our journey of faith!
