Is 29:17-24; Mt 9:27-31
In today’s Gospel, the accent falls on faith.
The two blind men follow Jesus in faith. They cry out in faith, ‘Son of David, have pity on us!’ They confirm their faith in Jesus when asked by him later.
It is the measure of their faith that they receive as healing from Jesus.
The two blind men teach us that we are healed according to the measure of our faith.
Another fascinating detail is that the blind men address Jesus as the ‘Son of David.’ But why? David was not a healer.
The Biblical scholars believe that according to some new evidence, Solomon, a son and the successor of David, was regarded as a healer.
This may be the reason that the blind men wanted ‘Son of David’ to give them healing.
In their earnest appeal, the two blind men declare Jesus’ identity and profess their faith in him.
We learn from the two men that the accent of faith beautifies Christian life.
Let us pray that we may behold our Lord with the eyes of faith to experience the same healing.
