Costly Mistake!

Eph 4:1-6; Lk 12:54-59

Today’s Gospel highlights Jesus’ disappointment over the hypocrisy in people.

The people behave as if they lack the ability to read the signs of the times.

But Jesus exposes their hypocrisy by showing that for those who can read the ‘signs of the weather,’ reading the ‘signs of the times’ must not be that hard.

It is here that Jesus encounters the selective application at work.

People who exhibit the ability to read the remote signs fail to understand who is walking with them in the person of Jesus.

They have no problem believing the guidance of the false religious leaders. On the contrary, Jesus comes working for their liberation, and they disown him.

It is people’s blind loyalty that acts as an incentive for the false leaders to further exploit them.

In their stubbornness, who they disown is Jesus, and what they disown is the Gospel truth.

Let us pray that our lives may not be characterized by the costly mistake of disowning Jesus and the truth of his Gospel.
